User-generated content (UGC) is exactly what it sounds like: content created by real people, not your in-house design team. Think unboxing clips, casual product demos, and "here's why I switched" videos shot on a phone in someone's bathroom or kitchen.

For D2C brands, UGC has become the backbone of paid acquisition for one simple reason: it doesn't look like an ad. Cold audiences scroll past polished brand content but stop for something that looks like it came from a friend.

The brands winning in 2026 aren't choosing between UGC and traditional creative — they're running both, with UGC feeding the top of funnel and retargeting, while brand content holds down awareness. If you're not testing UGC in your ad mix yet, you're leaving cheap, high-converting creative on the table.
