Macro influencers (100K+ followers) buy you reach. Micro influencers (10K–100K) usually buy you trust — and for D2C brands trying to drive direct conversions, trust tends to win.
Micro creators typically have tighter, more engaged communities. Their audience follows them for a specific reason — fitness, skincare, parenting — which means the product fits more naturally into the content instead of feeling bolted on.
The tradeoff is volume. One macro post might reach what 15 micro creators reach combined, but it usually costs less than half as much to get there, and you get 15 different creative angles to test instead of one.
Most D2C brands seeing the best blended ROI run a portfolio: a handful of micro creators monthly for steady content supply, and the occasional macro placement for spikes in awareness.
